Welcome to my blog, where we delve into the age-old debate: the ‘one size fits all model of Generalized Education versus tailored education. As a parent, edupreneur and Child Transformation enthusiast; this topic resonates deeply with me. Join me as we explore the nuances and implications of these educational paradigms.
Before we go-ahead; we need to remember the 3 pillars that defines Schooling :-
- Curriculum
- Process of Teaching and Way of Learning
- Assessment or Examination
As I have mentioned in earlier blogs, we are masters in building curriculum and also conducting examinations and we don’t see a problem with that. The concern is when we standardize our approach to education with few sets of subjects or areas (In which our society is made to believe that our kids’ future is resting) and when we expect every child to perform equally in them; without giving attention to their unique strengths, innate talents, learning or
thinking styles etc.
One Size Does Not Fit All
There are so many creative people out there and some of the most brilliant among them that I’ve met , didn’t do that well in school. I didn’t mean to say Success is inversely proportional to Schooling ; on the contrary my point is that, our current method of schooling is not the only basis whereby ones real success in life is defined. These people simply couldn’t identify that sweet spot within them which brings their best out , during schooling.
Why ?
Our preoccupation with a form of academics that focuses on hyperlexic and logical reasoning skills alone, is putting immense pressure on our Children to perform based on peer pressure rather than on their true skills. Here again, we shouldn’t think Science, Maths and languages are not important; we want a much wider approach in place that would facilitate growth in every child, be it whatever space. We simply push children with varied thinking or learning styles to perform the same way, as those with skills aligned to our existing academic system.
It’s just not the subjects alone; our kids need to grow in a sensory-rich environment that would instil creativity and imagination in them. It’s important to understand, that this will be unique for every child too, based on the ecosystem they grow up. This is one reason why many a time, a kid very good at a particular subject wouldn’t seem so in their class.
Learning Involves Transaction between the Person and the environment:
Traditionally education is an internal process that requires only the books , teacher and the class room. Experiential learning or creative learning influences the formation of attitudes , desire , purpose , excitement and also triggers the creative energy flow of the child by taking into account the environment.
Awakening a child by creating experiences that would incite their sensorimotor systems ; which in turn would invoke the aesthetic memory and excitement in them , is the key to create the interest and desire for learning.
NOTE :-
Kids who develop very good aesthetic mind set will have :-
- High level of curiosity
- Playful and joyful open-ended exploration mindset
- Very keen sensory awareness
- Has a very creative mindset full of ideas
The Crucial Window of Opportunity
It’s believed that the journey of education begins in the formative years, from birth to Eight & from there to Fourteen years old, the periods marked by remarkable brain development and synaptic plasticity. During these crucial windows, children exhibit natural curiosity and eagerness to learn about the world around them. So, it is important that we provide them with an experiential early childhood that nurtures this enthusiasm and exposes them to appropriate activities that would instil growth and transformation in them.

Unlocking Skill Nurturing
In our pursuit of traditional indicators of talent, such as high grades, admissions at prestigious institutions, and well-settled jobs we often overlook the innate gifts and talents that a child possesses. While traditional schooling and exams undoubtedly have their merits, are they truly fostering an environment conducive to unlocking the unique genius hidden within each child?
As parents or student caretakers, it’s crucial to reflect on whether our educational systems are nurturing individual talents and passions alongside academic achievement. Every child is unique, with their own set of strengths and passions waiting to be discovered. Whether it’s a natural flair for singing, dancing or a knack for painting, recognizing and nurturing these inherent talents is essential for guiding children towards a fulfilling and successful path in life.
Evolution of Education- Moving Beyond One Size Fits All
The traditional educational system has long followed a ‘one size fits all’ approach, where students are expected to fit into a standardized mould of learning. However, as our understanding of learning diversity grows, it’s becoming increasingly clear that this method needs to be updated and we need more innovation in education. Educational institutions must evolve to cater to the individual needs and learning styles of students, providing a platform for personalized learning, growth and development.
Let’s Embrace Differences
One of the key arguments against the ‘one size fits all’ model is its failure to accommodate the diverse learning styles of students. When it comes to teaching, what excites teachers may not always resonate with students, leaving classrooms feeling dull. That’s where ‘differentiated learning’ steps in, a dynamic approach favoured by educationalists to personalize education, ensuring every student’s unique needs and interests are met, sparking enthusiasm and engagement across the board. Recognizing and respecting these differences is crucial for creating an inclusive and effective skill-based education environment. By embracing multiple learning styles – visual, auditory, and kinesthetics’’ – educators can ensure that every child has the opportunity to excel.
Differentiated Learning: Adapting to Individual Needs
The concept of ‘tailored education’ offers a promising alternative to the rigid structures of traditional education. By tailoring instruction to meet the unique needs and interests of each student, educators can create a more engaging and effective learning experience. This approach not only fosters academic growth but also nurtures a sense of confidence and self- discovery in students, empowering them to reach their full potential.
In today’s digital age, personalized learning has emerged as a ground-breaking approach to education. By leveraging technology and data analytics, educators can create customized learning experiences tailored to the individual strengths and interests of students. This shift towards personalized learning represents a significant departure from the ‘one size fits all’ model, offering a more dynamic and responsive approach to education.
Harnessing the Power of AI
As we look towards the future of education, the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) cannot be overstated. AI-powered tools and platforms are revolutionizing various aspects of education. By harnessing AI in Education, parents and even schools can gain a deeper insight into a child’s learning needs and preferences, paving the way for a more personalized and effective educational experience.
Amidst these advancements, it’s essential to address systemic inequalities within the education system. Recognizing that not all students have equal access to resources and opportunities is the first step towards creating a more equitable educational landscape. By acknowledging and actively working to bridge gaps in child development, we can ensure that every individual has the chance to thrive and succeed.
Conclusion: Embracing Diversity in Education
In conclusion, the debate between the ‘one size fits all’ model and tailored education is not just about pedagogical approaches; it’s about embracing the diversity of learners and nurturing their unique potential. While the traditional model may offer a sense of uniformity, it falls short of accommodating the unique needs and talents of every child. On the other hand, tailored education, whether through differentiated learning or personalized learning, holds the promise of unlocking the full spectrum of human potential. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of education transformation, let us strive to create inclusive and adaptive learning environments that empower every individual to thrive.
